Prostate Cancer Treatments

When you are diagnosed with prostate cancer, you should know that there are many different treatments available to you. There are various prostate cancer treatments that work better for various stages. For instance, if you are a Stage I, you might be able to get by with simple radiation.

Prostate Cancer Treatments – Stage III

However, if you are a Stage III, radiation alone would not likely be the best treatment. To find out what the latest prostate cancer treatment options are, or if you are interested in more natural or alternative treatments, you should consider doing your own research online.

The thing to remember with prostate cancer treatments is that it often grows very slowly. In addition, it seems to grow slower if it is left untouched by surgery. So, many times doctors will suggest other treatments before jumping to surgery.

Prostate Cancer Treatments – One Of The Best Treatments

One of the best treatments for prostate cancer available for those prostate cancer patients is hormone therapy. The reason hormone therapy works so well is because prostate cancer deals directly with male hormones.

So when male hormones are eliminated from the body, the prostate cancer tends to stop growing. It retards the system of growth completely. By removing or stunting the testicles from producing male hormones, the patient can stop the cancer from spreading throughout the body.

In order to determine the right treatment for a man’s prostate problem, it is essential to undergo prostate ultrasound.

During the stage of diagnosis, the patient will be required to undergo an ultrasound that will allow the physician to estimate how severe the inflammation is.

By knowing the size of the prostate gland, a doctor will be able to determine whether or not a biopsy may also be necessary to test the health of the infected gland.

The prostate ultrasound is usually done trans rectal, in order to probe the inside of the male’s rectum and get a clearer view of the prostate gland. Once the pictures are taken, the physician can now transfer the images to a treatment planning device.

Other options involve prostate surgery such as a prostatectomy where the doctors remove the prostate.

Of course, you always have a say in your prostate cancer treatments options, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and come prepared with knowledge on specific treatments that might be suggested. Your doctor will be impressed and know you mean business when you come educated on the subject.

Prostate Cancer Video For Treatment Options

Things such as your overall health, age, and risk factors such as benign prostatic hyperplasia will determine your actual risk of prostate cancer and help your doctor make a good decision. He can then recommend the best plan of action for treating and eliminating your prostate cancer.

To determine what the best prostate cancer treatments are, you should really talk with your doctor. Your doctor will be able to examine your individual case and determine what the best approach would be. You can also contact your national cancer institute for some of the best information about prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Facts

Prostate cancer is something that is more common than ever. It is extremely common in older men above the age of 45. In fact, the older the male is, the more likely he is to have prostate cancer. Not good reading these statistics about prostate cancer facts.

There are several things that help determine the risk of a man having this cancer. Take a look at how many men get it and who are at most risk.

Prostate Cancer Facts – How Many Men Get Cancer

Over 200,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in America each year. The American Cancer Society estimates that one in six men actually get prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Although this number is quite high, the good news is that of those 200,000+ men diagnosed this year with prostrate cancer, only a little over 20,000 will die from it.

Learning what to look for in terms of early warning signs and early symptoms is what is saving many men from perishing from it. However, the cancer still remains as the second most common cancer in males over the age of 40 (lung cancer is first).

Many men benefit from the latest treatment plans and from simply detecting their cancer early. However, some men seem to be doomed from birth as prostrate cancer is genetic and those with a family history of prostrate cancer are more likely to have it themselves.

Since more than 93% of those diagnosed with prostate cancer are between the ages of 45 and 80, it is important to be checked each year at your annual physical.

So, when it comes to the cancer, those diagnosed should know they are not alone and their chance for survival is terrific. Early detection is the most important thing to realize and that is usually easy to remember when you visit your doctor annually. This is one of the most important prostate cancer facts that you should take on board.

In a man’s lifetime he has an 10 percent ( 1 in 10) chance of being diagnosed as having prostate cancer. Commercials on the T. V. Make it clear that one in 3 men will experience some kind of prostate issues during their life.

Another one of the worrying prostate cancer facts, two hundred thousand new occurrences of prostate cancer are being reported in the US each year.

Prostate cancer is a malicious cancer that starts to grow in the gland. It can begin to spread from the prostate gland to the bones, lymph nodes, and also the other organs. This illness is the second leading reason for cancer death in men.

Prostate Cancer Facts – Survival Rate

The survival rate for this illness has improved a large amount in the last twenty years from 67% all the way up to 99%. Age is the first hazard factor and the chance of developing this illness will increase as you get older. Most cases of prostrate cancer are found in men who are over the age of sixty five.

Just one in ten thousand men who are diagnosed as having prostate cancer are under the age of forty. A person has a hazard factor of at least eleven times much more inclined to develop prostate cancer whether their dad or brother has had it.

It has been found that the death rate for prostate cancer in men is more that over 2 times higher in African-American men which is one of those major unsettling prostate cancer facts. This is going to be thanks to the variations in diet between these groups of men.

I like a lot of men until lately could not tell you what the PSA test meant or where the actual prostate was in the body. Even more the majority of men would find it extremely hard to talk about the prostate because its function plays a part in urinating and sex. Most would feel embarrassed.

However the PSA (prostate specific antigen) test is now recognized as an important test for men over the age of 45 in screening for prostrate cancer. In fact it is not far in saying that the test could actually save your life and it is

The Prostate PSA test actually measures a protein called protease which is secreted within the prostate gland. The levels will determine whether further investigation are required to check for prostate cancer and also BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia )

Doctors will use the results of the tests to gauze for the presence of prostate cancer or bph. In patients who had prostate cancer treatment the test can show whether the cancer is in remission or has returned.

It is highly recommended that men over the age of 45 should have the PSA test. Do this on a regular yearly basis because the bottom line is that early diagnosis of prostrate cancer is the best way of beating this terrible disease and the earlier detected gives your better treatment choices.

Diet is recommended as something that is affecting your odds of developing prostate cancer. You may also wish to see a doctor and bear tests if you have any symptoms of prostate issues. Also contact your national cancer institute for more information.

Don’t skip those annual appointments and get a better handle on your prostate health today. We hope that this post on prostate cancer facts has made you aware of the importance of regular health checks.

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer

As with all cancers, prostate cancer is staged according to how far along the cancer has progressed. Usually, these stages are represented with Roman numerals, such as I, II, III, and IV, a system that was developed by the American Join Committee on Cancer to standardize staging. As you might expect, stage 4 prostate cancer is the most advanced and aggressive prostate stage.

If you have been diagnosed with a stage IV prostate cancer, you might be wondering how it relates to the other stages. Often, cancer patients are confused by the staging designations and require some further clarification. As a quick primer, the stages of prostate cancer are listed below:

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer – Stage I To IV

Stage I – Cancer is well within the prostate gland and has not spread. If you’ve had a biopsy, fewer than 5% of the biopsy tissue contained cancer.

Stage II – In this state, the cancer is also within the prostrate gland and hasn’t spread. However, during a biopsy, the tissue contained more than 5% cancerous cells.

Stage III – At this point, the cancer has spread outside the prostate gland area, but not to the lymph nodes or other body parts that are farther away from the prostate.

Stage IV – In stage 4, the prostate cancer has spread to other areas of the body, including some that are considered “far away” from the prostate gland (such as the lymph nodes.)

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer – Various Options

As you can see, stage 4 cancers need to be dealt with more aggressively and efficiently than other types. In fact, many stage 1 patients may choose to adopt a “wait and see” attitude toward their cancer rather than immediately attacking the cancer at its source. However, this isn’t an option for stage 4 prostate cancer patients.

Although treatments are structured in order to make a man healthier when it comes to his health conditions, there can be some forms of medication that can result to several prostate side effects.

Prostate cancer treatments often result to urinary and erectile dysfunction. Most of these side effects are brought about by various antibiotic treatments as well as going through the process of chemotherapy. It is already a well known fact that a man may experience mouth sores or hair loss during chemotherapy.

While going through the prostate treatment, such as stage 4 prostate cancer, it is also possible to experience the inability to control urination, causing a dysfunction in the urinary system.

By the time it reaches a stage 4 prostate cancer , you may need to choose radiation or chemotherapy in addition to surgery to eradicate the cancer. At this point, your doctor can provide you with all the answers you need to make the most informed decision possible.

Prostate Cancer Information

Though no man wants to hear that he has prostate cancer, the diagnosis is far less fatal than it was for past generations. In fact, only 1 in 34 males with prostate cancer will succumb to the disease.

These are good odds and indicative of the advancements in cancer treatments and the medical information available. It’s a positive fact in the midst of much prostate cancer information.

In fact, there are now many options available to men who have been stricken with prostate cancer. The most common are radiation, surgery, such as a prostatectomy and hormone therapy. However, chemotherapy and radiation may also be used in some cases, where the prostate cancer is at an advanced stage, such as stages III and IV.

Prostate Cancer Information – Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy involves a surgeon aiming high energy beams at the patient’s body (either externally or internally) in an effort to “shrink” the prostate cancer.

Radiation is often chosen by patients whose cancer has not spread to the surrounding tissues; thus, the beam can pinpoint the affected area(s) and leave the prostate intact.

More facts relating to prostate cancer information is that surgery in the form of either a radical prostatectomy or transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) are often chosen by patients and their doctors in response to a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Radical prostatectomy involves removing the prostate gland as well as tissue surrounding it. “TURP” doesn’t cure the cancer (or even remove all of it); instead, it’s focus is to relieve some of the symptoms of prostate cancer, such as urination difficulties.

Prostate Cancer Information – Hormone Therapy

Hormone therapy has been shown to have some effectiveness in prostate cancer patients. Basically, the levels of androgens (male hormones) are lowered in an effort to encourage the prostate cancer cells to shrink.

However, hormone therapy has never been shown to completely eradicate the cancer; instead, it merely slows down the growth for a period of time. Another important fact in the prostate cancer information available online.

Finally, chemotherapy may be used by some prostate cancer patients. Drugs which are injected into the male’s veins enter the bloodstream and attack the cancer cells.

It is important to note that although chemotherapy is becoming a more viable option for those who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, it is still not as effective as radiation or surgery in the vast majority of cases.

The severity of prostate problems is not often mirrored by the size of the prostate gland. A lot of times, men are surprised to find out that they have prostate cancer even if their prostate has only mild inflammation.

In order to have prostate relief, there are a lot of alternative methods that one can take in order to protect their own body. One of the most effective ways to keep their prostate gland healthy and away from such diseases is by keeping a well balanced diet.

A lot of nutritionists prescribe healthy meals that will be able to supply the body with ample doses of protection from prostate ailments.

We do hope that the prostate cancer information has been of some help in your important research. Always remember that you can contact your national cancer foundation for more relevant and helpful health information.

Prostrate Cancer

The precise reason for prostrate cancer hasn’t been discovered yet. It can’t be passed on or contracted from someone else and there are a number risk factors which make it much more likely for various men to develop prostate cancer. Your age is the number one reason for developing the cancer.

It has beeen found to be rare to discover a man below the age of forty to have prostate cancer. The chances of this occuring are one in ten thousand. As a man gets older his probabilities of developing prostrate cancer rise quite dramatically.

Prostrate Cancer – Is Age a Factor

Most men who are unfortunate to develop prostate cancer are usually over sixty five years of age. Family history is also another hazard factor in developing prostate cancer.

If a person has a dad or brother who’s had the illness, he is much more likely to develop prostate cancer. Prostrate cancer is unfortunately found in more African-American men. Asian men have a smaller risk factor of developing this illness.

The prospect of contracting prostate cancer can be very scary. Therefore it’s important to be aware of prostrate cancer survival rates. Therefore it is advisable to change your lifestyle if it would mean that you lower the chance of developing this terrible disease.

Unfortunately the risks do increase as you get older and if you family history has a record of prostate cancer. The positive message is there are lifestyle changes over which you do have control. These are having regular health checks and eating a proper balanced diet.

If you tend to eat a lot of junk food and food with high fat content, then unfortunately the stark fact of the matter is that you increase the risk of bad health including prostate cancer.

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and low fat meals. Medical research has identified a particular nutrient called lycopene, which is found in tomatoes and watermelons. It has been found to prevent various types of cancer. Therefore highly recommended.

Please ensure that you have regular medical check-ups from the age of 50 because the risk factor gets higher and early diagnosis increases your change significantly of beating the disease. Early detection gives better options for defeating the cancer. The treatments for prostrate cancer can range from prostate surgery such as a prostatectomy, where the prostrate is removed or radiation.

Prostrate Cancer – The Importance Of a Proper Diet

Diet is one more factor in deciding who develops this awful disease called prostate cancer. This is some hazard factors but the excellent news is you can control many of them.

Manifestly you can’t control what race you were born into, or your what your family history is. Also one thing for sure is that you won’t halt the aging process.

However you can really help yourself by changing your diet habits and also trying to take better care of the health of your body.

It does not mean that the men who have the risk factors listed above will develop prostrate cancer. Men who do get this illness frequently don’t have any risk factors except they were getting older.

What Causes Prostate Cancer

While there are many symptoms of prostate cancer, what causes prostate cancer are unknown. The biggest culprit seems to be genetics. If a person’s father had prostate cancer, then chances are, they will develop it too.

While a person’s age, race, and nationality can be factors, genetics seems to be the biggest common link between those who have had the cancer.

After the age of fifty, visiting a doctor for yearly prostate cancer screenings is recommended. This will give doctors a chance to treat the cancer early if it is detected.

What Causes Prostate Cancer – Early Signs and Symptoms

Early symptoms and warning signs include painful urination, pelvic pain, swelling, back pain, and weight loss. There may be other symptoms as well. Visiting a doctor is the only way to receive a definite prognosis as these symptoms could be caused by other illnesses or infections.

Being aware of the symptoms and causes of prostate cancer could save a person’s life by getting treatment early. After the age of fifty, it is best to schedule yearly tests to see if the cancer is present. Sometimes knowing early can save a person’s life.

If prostate cancer is left untreated, it will begin to spread. Once it has metastasized, or spread to other areas of the body, the cancer will be harder to treat. Bone metastasis is the hardest form of cancer to treat.

Once the cancer enters the bone, it will infect the marrow which can be spread very easily to the rest of the body. This is why being checked for cancer is so important.

What Causes Prostate Cancer – Cancer Treatments

There are many prostate cancer treatments available to help fight prostate cancer. The latest treatment is cryosurgery. This procedure involves freezing tumors so that they cannot spread to other parts of the body.

One of the latest prostate cancer treatments is cryosurgery, a minimally invasive techniques that involves freezing the cancerous cells in and around the prostate gland.

Prostate cancer is an unwelcome diagnosis, but thanks to medical science and technology, there are new treatments available for men of every age and health status.

However, one concern has been that, in some patients, cryosurgery results in nerve damage which can cause anything from a sensation of a full bladder (even after it has been emptied) to complete impotence.

Still, the small amount of blood loss is often worth it to prostate cancer patients and their loved ones.

Another treatment is radiation, which is becoming more and more useful because equipment allows surgeons to better target the cancerous cells. Therefore, the radiation is directed at exactly the right spot, leaving behind little damage to the surrounding tissues.

Of course, radiation isn’t for every male with prostate cancer; if the cancer has spread too far, radiation may not be effective or may only be useful in conjunction with other treatment methods.

Some patients opt for a complete removal of the prostate gland to stop the spread of cancer. This can cause hormonal and bladder/bowel problems, but may be an ideal choice for those who are concerned about prostate cancer “moving” to other body parts (especially those which are far away from the body.)

In addition to these three treatments, there are alternative therapy methods for dealing with prostate cancer, though they are often met with skepticism from the medical community.

One such “natural” remedy is the macrobiotic diet, a very strict food plan that advocates declare can rid the body of cancer and other poisonous toxins.

Though no studies have shown that this is a definitively effective way to cure or control prostate cancer, hundreds of patients flock to macrobiotic foods each year in an attempt to treat their cancers without surgery or hormone therapy.

Whatever treatment you choose, make sure you discuss it at length with your physician. And if you feel your doctor isn’t giving you the courtesy you need, never forget that you can always get a second opinion.

If nothing else, it will help you decide which of the best prostrate cancer treatments is right for you. And you may hear about new cancer drug trials happening for which you could be a part.

Chemotherapy is also available and if the tumor is small enough and has not mestasised, removing the tumor through surgical procedures is also an option.

Knowing as much as what causes prostate cancer, can help you make the proper decisions for the best treatment.

Prostate Cancer information

In fact, the American Cancer Society (ACS) suggests that only 1 in 34 men will die from prostate cancer, and the survival rates are improving year after year. Therefore it’s important to obtain the correct prostate cancer information.

Though no one wants to hear that he has the medical advances in prostate cancer information and treatment and therapies make the diagnosis far less fatal than it once was.

As the second most common cancer in American men (the first is skin cancer), there is much known now about prostate cancer, though it’s still a mystery as to why some males get it and others don’t.

Prostate Cancer Information – Important Points To Consider

However, what we can be sure of is that education, combined with the proper prostate information, has been the key to catching prostate cancer in time. This helps both the patient and physician stop the spread of prostate cancer as well as eliminate some of the fears (such as that being diagnosed with prostate cancer is an immediate “death sentence”, a common misperception.)

The ACS rates prostate cancer survival stats in five-year increments. Thus, their latest prostate cancer findings suggest that more than 99% of the men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer will survive for at least five more years.

And if the prostate cancer is diagnosed while it’s still within the prostate, that survival rate leaps to almost 100%. However, if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (especially those that are significantly far away from the prostate gland), the five-year survival rate hovers around 34%.

Of course, it’s critical not to rely on numbers for important prostate cancer information. However they come in handy for statistical purposes, every man’s prostrate cancer experience is unique.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is a swelling of the prostate gland that is not due to prostate cancer. Sadly, since the prostate gland grows wrapped round the higher portion of the urethra, if it swells, negative side-effects can result.

The condition can be extremely uncomfortable and negative to maintaining a properly working, healthy urinary system. What exactly causes benign prostatic hyperplasia is still not absolutely accepted by modern medication.

Across the totality of their lives, men produce both the male hormone testosterone and a little amount of the female hormone, estrogen. As a natural side-effect of aging, the amount of testosterone active in the bloodstream decreases. In nature, as most animals age, they stop producing dihydrotestosterone.

Prostate Cancer Information – Prostrate Surgery

Following prostrate surgery which can correct the problem of BPH, patients are often wanted to stay in the hospital for a day or two for observation. Complications from the surgery should be gone after that time.

Less significant cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia can be treated with certain types of drugs and even prostate care. Thus, if you or someone you love has one or more of the common symptoms of prostate cancer (such as blood in the urine, erectile dysfunction, or loss of bladder/bowel control), it’s essential to make an appointment with your family doctor.

That way, if you do have the disease, you can quickly halt its progress. I do hope that this prostate cancer information has been of help to you.

Prostate Cancer Signs and Symptoms

“I didn’t know I had prostate cancer!” It’s a phrase often repeated by men who have been diagnosed with the disease. Truly, the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer that is expected to strike nearly a quarter million American men this year are not always apparent.

However, you and your partner can be diligent in paying attention to any of the following unusual warning signs.

Prostate Cancer Signs and Symptoms – Important Warning Signs

Blood in the Urine

Prostate cancer can cause blood to be present in the urine stream of otherwise healthy men. If you discover any pink discoloration in your urine, it will behoove you to have it checked out as soon as you can.

Though there are other causes of blood in the urine (such as the presence of kidney stones), you’ll definitely want to rule out the possibility of cancer.

Erectile Dysfunction

Many men think that occasional impotence is nothing to be concerned about. Or they simply assume they have “ED” (as popularized by Bob Dole in the late 1990s/early 2000s television commercials) and assume the answer is Viagra or a similar medication.

What they don’t realize is that trouble maintaining or getting an erection can be an early warning sign of prostate cancer. Though many males feel embarrassment if they cannot perform sexually, they should always talk with their family physicians about this medical problem.

Loss of Bowel (or Bladder) Control

It’s embarrassing and difficult when you have little control over your bowels or bladder. It can also be a warning sign of prostate cancer. Again, if you discover that you’re having trouble in this arena, don’t ignore the problem (even if it only happens once in a while.)

Prostate Cancer Signs and Symptoms – Finding The Right Treatment

Finding the right treatment or prostate cure for your prostate problem can be a challenge. A man must undergo extensive diagnosis and checkup in order to determine which method will be most effective for their body’s recovery.

If you have prostate cancer, for instance, the treatment will depend on how much damage the cancer sells have brought to your prostate as well as other parts of the body. The most common cure for the disease is radiation treatment, as well as radical prostatectomy.

The former is run by a series of x-rays, in order to diminish the cancer cells in the man’s body. The latter, on the other hand, makes use of extensive surgery in order to fully remove the prostate, including the lymph nodes to avoid the disease from spreading.

After all, it’s better to know than to catch your prostate cancer in a later stage when treatment options are limited.

If something is amiss, it’s critical that you address your medical concerns quickly and efficiently. And, of course, never be afraid to get a second opinion. Many lives have been saved when patients “shop around”.

Above all else, you need to pay attention to your body’s signals and the possible prostate cancer signs and symptoms.
