An prostate enlargement occurs when an ordinary prostate gland in men grows abnormally, pressing and eventually blocking the urethra. It is very common in men above the age of forty. If you are experiencing this condition, one of the best natural methods is the enlarged prostate diet.

Although staying healthy is the hope of every person the majority of individuals occasionally experience regular health complications. In such health issues, most of us will use a wide range of medication from natural methods that include healthy diets to drugs prescribed by specialists.

Enlarged Prostate Diet – Basics

The enlarged prostate diet is among the diets commonly used to treat prostate health issues. The diet is basically meant to fight the condition where the size of the prostrate is expected to shrink or reduce to normal size.

To minimize the level of enlarged prostate in men, drinking a lot of cranberry juice is advisable. This juice increases the acidity of urine thus creating unfavorable environment for bacteria along the urinary tract. In turn, there risk of bacterial infections along the tract is lowered.

A healthy enlarged prostate diet containing low fat and high protein diet is very important when prostate health is in question. The high protein diet inhibits production of an enzyme responsible for testosterone conversion which is a condition associated with prostate problems.

Enlarged Prostate Diet – Drink Plenty Of Water

In addition it has been found that drinking a lot of water serves a great deal to individuals suffering from enlarged prostate. The ultimate target of taking a lot of water is to ensure that majority of the bacteria that often accumulate along the urinary tract are washed away. About eight glasses of water per day is preferred for such men with prostate enlargement to ensure they are always
hydrated.

Consuming lots of fruit is very essential when added to the diet. Plenty of fruits ensure the body has the ability to produce natural vitamin D which is very helpful in matters of prostate health. Furthermore it recommends consumption of zinc elements. Various scientific studies shows that zinc element supplements assist in shrinking the enlarged prostate in men.

However, the zinc supplements in the enlarged prostate diet should be taken in moderation. Foods that include the zinc elements are oysters, crab, baked beans, duck and the lean beef and lamp. Raw pumpkin seeds also contain the zinc supplements required by sufferers of enlarged prostate.

High levels of physical exercises are also very vital as part of the program. These exercises assist greatly in improving blood circulation to the tissues along the urinary tract. The Kegel exercises are mostly preferred and they are performed by tightening the muscles around the scrotum and anus.

Avoiding sweets reduce risks of prostate enlargement which is aggravated by obesity brought by the lots of sugars present in diets. In case you are a victim of enlarged prostate, ensure you keep off high sugar foods.

Basically, an enlarged prostate diet is highly recommended as a preventive measure for the enlarged prostate gland. Besides it can help to avoid surgery such as a prosatectomy.

Prostate Surgery Recovery: In the field of health, there are certain conditions of the prostate gland that have lead to their death. These problems have been discussed by health organizations which gave them with many ideas about the health treatments and surgeries that are very helpful to their patients.

Common prostate surgeries are Prostatectomy and Trans-urethral Resection of the Prostate or TURP. To undergo such surgeries is never easy. Remember that the urinary system is responsible for excreting and removing a large amount of waste fluids from the body. Failure to remove these fluids will lead the person to have serious urinary infections and even death.

Certain preparations are required within a few days before the schedule of the surgery. Psychological and physical preparations are very important to help the client relax and stay calm. After surgery, close monitoring is a must. In this way, it doesn’t only prevent the risk of complications but it can also help in the successful recovery of the client.

A person who shows full recovery from the surgery will report relief or even slight discomfort. If this is present, it may be due to the unhealed incision site, bladder spasm, excoriation of the skin at the catheter site or it could even be a kidney problem . To avoid this serious problem, the patient is encouraged to increase his fluid intake. He is also advised to ambulate but avoid sitting for a long period of time to prevent further discomfort and possible bleeding.

Free of complications and absence of inflammation and bleeding over the incision site, a normal urinary elimination pattern should return. These are all positive indications that he will be discharged from the hospital. The health team will continue to observe and and monitor him if there is any acute complication that needs to be treated.

The patient should demonstrate fluid and electrolyte balance. These are very important to determine the excess or loss of fluids during the catheter irrigation. Make sure that the urinary output of the client is within normal level which is 30 mL per hour. To know if he exhibits fluid balance, there should be no signs and symptoms of urinary retention or bladder spasm.

A person is also taught how to participate in his self-care activities for this health and his prostate health. These include ambulation, drinking enough fluids, performing perineal exercises and avoid lifting heavy things. These are the common indications that a person is cooperating with the treatment process. Doing these activities will help him gain his confidence and help him to manage his present condition.

Unfortunately, there are several people who have died because of urinary problems. Recovery from surgery is one of the expected outcomes that any medical staff want for their patient. Cooperation and trust are the main reasons why a person recovers successfully from any condition. “No man is an island”, as the saying goes. Always remember that a patient cannot achieve a certain goal in his life without the help of other people. This will help immensely for prostate surgery recovery.

If someone asked you, what is prostatitis, what would you answer? Would you have the right answers to share with them ? Here some answers for you! Prostatitis refers to the swelling or inflammation of the prostate glands in men. Quite often its caused by bacteria. This health issue can affect any man but its more often found to affect young and middle age men.

It results in burning or irritation when urinating, plus having to urinate more frequently plus simply feeling tired. The prostate gland itself is a wall-nut sized gland in men, which is located under the bladder.

All About Prostatitis – Diagnosis

It might sometimes be difficult to diagnose prostatitis in an individual as symptoms may differ one to another. However the main diagnostic method is a digital rectal examination to determine to determine if there is any irregularities of the prostate

Causes Of Prostatitis

Bacterial infection
One of the most common causes of Prostatitis is bacterial infection. A doctor can check a urine sample under a microscope for bacterial organisms. If some are found then this infection is called bacterial prostatitis. To fight this infection the doctor will prescribe a course of antibiotics.

Types of Prostatitis

1) Acute prostatitis
2) Chronic bacterial prostatitis
3) Non-bacterial prostatitis
4) Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis

(1) Acute Prostatitis

Acute prostatitis can be life threatening if an individual is diagnosed with it. Its however the easiest to treat among the four types mentioned above.Acute prostatitis manifests itself suddenly and vigorously. It can make one immensely sick in just a matter of days.It therefore calls for emergency treatment so as to reduce chances of the infection spreading on to other parts of the body, like the blood stream.

Its symptoms include:
a) Urgency and frequency in urinating
b) Fever goes high
c) one may experience fever and chills owing to it bacterial characteristic.
d) One may also experience pain when ejaculating during sex

It responds well to treatment, by use of antibiotics and can be brought under control after couple of weeks.

(2) Chronic bacterial prostatitis

This uncommon condition that results from bacterial infection in the urinary tract of a man. It occurs when the bacteria finds an area conducive enough for them to the to survive.

Symptoms of Prostatitis

(a) Pain in lower back pain and groin
(b) difficulty in urinating or need to frequently urinate.
(c) One will most likely experience fever and chills as its bacterial related
(d) Pain in ejaculation

The treatment for this calls for the use of antimicrobials for quite a duration of time.

Chronic prostatitis / Chronic pelvic pain syndrome.

It occurs to men of any age and the symptoms usually seem to go away only to recur later. Its usually in two forms. The first is the inflammatory and the second is non-inflammatory

In inflammatory semen, prostatic fluid and the urine of an infected persons may contain the cells that the body releases to fight the infection . In the non-inflammatory the semen, prostatic fluid and urine may not show the presence of the infecting cells.

Treatment for Chronic Prostatitis

This form of prostatitis has no clear method of treatment. Usually pain killers like ibuprofen can be purchased over the counter and contribute to the treatment. Avoiding alcohol and drinks with high caffein content will also go a long way to help one suffering from this form of prostatitis.

We hope that the following information has helped you answer the question – what is prostatitis

According to Dr. Meir Daller of the Lee Memorial Health System , around forty percent of men aged 40 and fifty percent of 50 year old men have an enlarged prostate. Furthermore he says that sixty percent of males of age sixty have also an enlarged prostate. Startling statistics that should not be ignored.

One of the health issues of prostate problems is called bph or benign prostate hyperplasia. This problem will cause extreme discomfort. Urinary problems arise because as the prostate gland increases, it will place pressure on the are of the urethra.

This results in frequent drips to the bathroom at night time. This makes getting back to sleep more awkward and lack of sleep brings additional health problems over the long term. Bladder stones and a more serious problem such as kidney failure can result from the issue of urinary retention.

The treatment used to be removal of part of the prostate gland. This involved a significant stay in hospital. However a brand new procedure is now being introduced in this field and no cutting is involved.

The procedure uses a special gas to vaporize the affected area of the prostate. The result is the same as traditional surgery. The vaporization procedure is carried out using a small button electrode.

Virtually no blood is spilled during this twenty minute procedure. Overall the patients do quite well and are able to go home after just an hour.

The procedure is aimed mostly at men not obtaining the required relief from the prescribed medication

Prostate Biopsy Exam – In the area concerning men’s health, prostate problems later in life will be experienced by the majority of men Around the ages between forty-five to age fifty, most will experience a common health problem called prostatitis. This is a problem which can relate to an infection or inflammation of some kind. As they get older, the problems will be that of the problems surrounding an enlarged prostate gland.

The medical name is also called BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Unfortunately some of these problems will develop into prostate cancer. Unfortunately the problems of the prostate develops quite slowly and this also applies to the prostate cancer. You could be developing it without realising it.

If you are at all worried, you should make an appointment with your doctor who will arrange or do the necessary checks. One of the most common problems is problems with starting or finishing urination. The best and only way to determine what the problems are and therefore the correct treatments is to have various tests.

Tests For Prostate Gland Problems

The most common tests for prostate gland problems are known as a digital rectal exam, which is a physical examination of the prostate. The other common one is a blood test which is called a PSA test. The medical name for this is called prostate specific antigen. Further tests might have to be carried out, depending on the results. One of these is called a prostate biopsy exam.

For men over the age of 50, the digital rectal exam is a common procedure. Here the doctor inserts a gloved finger into the rectum to check for any unsual signs, such a hard or soft bumps.

PSA Blood Test

With regards to the PSA blood test, this is carried out to find if there are any signs of prostate cancer present. The score in a PSA test will rise as the prostate cancer develops. One needs to be worried should it rise above 4.

If the present of prostate cancer is suspected, then a prostate biopsy exam would be recommended. Local anesthetic will be used on the area under investigation. As the biopsies are take, you will feel nothing more than uncomfortable sensations. In all this procedure take no more than 15-20 mins. The positive things about this procedure is that it will confirm the presence of prostate cancer and the extend to which it is present.

Prostate Health- The prostrate gland is a small gland that is located just below the bladder in front of the rectum. The urethra is the tube through which urine passes and it is surrounded by the prostrate gland.

One of the more common problems with your prostate health encountered by men under the age of 50 is an inflammation of the prostrate gland, known as prostatitis. Another problem is prostrate enlargement (BHP ) and this is very common in men aged over 50.

A man who is older than fifty has more of a chance of developing the risk of prostate cancer, because as a man ages the prostrate gland continues to grow. However there is some good news, an enlarged prostrate gland is far more common than prostrate cancer.

The problem with diagnosing prostate cancer lies with the fact that symptoms are similar to BHP and this prostate health issue is very common in men when they grow older. This condition very often causes more symptoms than prostrate cancer.

Early prostrate cancer symptoms are generally experienced due to an obstruction of the flow of urine. This is because of the fact that the prostrate gland surrounds the urethra, and when it enlarges, this blocks the natural flow of urine and makes it difficult to urinate. This condition is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or bph and relates to the condition of an enlarged prostate.

Prostate Health – Important Warnings

Early prostate related problems and symptoms could include:

Difficulty to start urination

The flow or stream of urine is not as fast or hard

You have to strain to urinate

It take longer to urinate, even in small amounts

The feeling that urination was not completed of the bladder is still full

Inability to empty the bladder

Problems with ejaculation

These symptoms are the same for BHP as for prostrate cancer: Other prostate problems are

Difficulty holding the urine in

Having to urinate more frequently

Getting up in the night to urinate

Suddenly needing to urinate and not being able to get to the toilet on time

Prostate Health – Tests By Your Doctor

If you experience any of the above symptoms it is very important to consult with your doctor or health professional. There are treatments available that will help you with these prostate health symptoms, and your GP will be able to check if you have or the beginnings of prostrate cancer.

The doctor will probably take a DRE (feeling the prostrate through the rectum) or PSA (Protein Specific Antigen)blood test.

The DRE is the first test that your doctor will conduct (sorry about this gents, it is not very pleasant!). Your doctor will ask you to Lie on your side, you’re your knees drawn up, or bend over the examination table.

He will then insert a gloved, lubricated finger into your rectum in order to feel the prostrate gland. It is over very quickly and causes virtually no discomfort; it is merely the anticipation of the test that causes the most discomfort.

If he feels that your prostate is abnormal he will then order the PSA blood tests. These are important in dealing with any prostate health problems.

Skin cancer is the first most prevalent cancer in men, men with prostrate cancer is the second, and the chances of contracting this illness increase with age. There are some schools of thought that believe; if a man lives long enough he will eventually contract cancer of the prostrate.

As with any illness and cancer in particular, early detection is vital. As symptoms are so similar to BHP there are really no specific signals that a man is suffering from prostrate cancer.

Once you have seen your doctor and he has conducted testing on you, if he feels that you may have an enlarged prostrate or the PSA is elevated, he will refer you to a urologist for your prostate health.

The urologist will also examine you, however, they can only confirm a prostrate cancer with the aid of a biopsy, neither the PSA or DRE are specific. During the biopsy of the prostrate gland, several biopsies are taken from various parts of the prostrate.

This is not a massive procedure and can be carried out on an out-patient basis. There is minor discomfort and men are mostly able to return to normal in a day or two.

Prostate Health – PSA Test

With the advent of PSA testing, they have been able to detect and treat prostrate cancer far earlier than ever before. Early prostate health treatment options have proved to be very successful, they have less side effects than the more aggressive treatments for advanced cancers.

There is definitely a relationship between most illnesses and obesity, and prostrate cancer is no exception. It has been estimated that in the US alone, as many as 90 000 deaths caused by cancer are obesity related, and could have been prevented.

Being overweight makes it more difficult to diagnose prostrate cancer. This delay of diagnosis puts overweight men at more risk of dying from this disease.

This result was concluded by a recent multi – university study, and the study recommends that doctors take extra care when examining overweight men for symptoms of prostrate cancer.

The study found that as the Body Mass Index of a man increases, so too does the growth of the prostrate gland. Body Mass Index is the formula used to evaluate weight in proportion to height.

It is because of this problem that it is felt doctors may actually miss a prostate cancer in obese men by as much as 20 – 25%. Many people don’t believe that being overweight or obese increase the risk of cancers, but this is not so. So taking care of your weight with a proper diet is one of the best ways to prevent prostate cancer and cancer prevention.

Finding a prostrate gland in an obese person is kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack and, the bigger the haystack, the more difficult it is to find the needle. This is the reason why it may be more complicated to diagnose a prostrate cancer in obese men.

Prostate Self Exam

Prostate cancer has many similarities to breast cancer. In the first place, it is detectable using a prostate self exam to check your prostate and screen prostatic cancer. Secondly, it is gender specific (although it is possible for males to develop breast cancer, it is exceedingly rare).
Prostate Self Exam - Why It Is So Important

Third, it is among the most common deadly cancers. Finally, the prostate, like the breast, is located in a location that is not frequently talked about. It is recommended that men aged fifty and older receive a yearly prostate exam.

However, since the long term prognosis is directly proportional to how early the cancer is detected, conducting a prostate self exam can give you added precious time if the cancer develops in between your regularly scheduled exams.

A self exam is surprisingly easy to accomplish, though it may take a bit of will power to get over the natural tendency to avoid the part of the body where the prostate is located.

The prostate is very easy to reach as it lies less than a finger length away from the rectal sphincter, but the really hard part is convincing yourself that probing into the rectum is a good idea.

This takes a bit of mind work, but in the end are not a few moments of being uncomfortable worth it. You have to remember that those few moments doing a prostate self exam, can make the difference between catching the cancer early or late?

How To Perform A Prostate Self Exam

To perform a prostate self exam, simply insert the index finger into the anus and feel for a fleshy mass. It should have the same consistency as the skin between your thumb and index finger when making a tight fist. A healthy prostate is firm but not hard.

Gently massage the prostate, carefully feeling for any hard lumps. If you detect a lump, do not panic–it’s probably not cancer and, if it is, at least you caught it early. Call your physician and ask for a comprehensive prostate exam.

As men grow older, the health of their prostate gland is put at risk. A lot of men who are already in their senior years have been introduced to various ailments, relating to a particular types of prostate problems.

One of the most common prostate problems is prostatitis. Men who have prostatitis find their prostate gland to be infected and at the same time suffering from inflammation. In rare instances, this can be cured by mere antibiotics, but other men have to go through several treatments to fully cure the disease.

Prostate cancer is also another disease commonly encountered by men. A man must undergo chemotherapy and biopsies in order to cure the cancer. Therefore as we continually preach on this site, it is so vital to have an early health check if any warning symptoms of prostate problems occur.

Doing a prostate self exam may be uncomfortable and embarrassing, but they can mean the difference between terminal and treatable prostate cancer. A few minutes of discomfort can save your life.

Prostatitis

Prostatitis a blanket term describing a number of prostate conditions. With advances in health care comes ever increasing life spans.

While this is undoubtedly a good thing, having a large population of people of advanced age means that diseases that were once rarely seen are becoming more prevalent. One of these diseases is prostate cancer.

The early symptoms of prostate cancer are typically due to restrictions in the urethra that occur because prostate cancer enlarges the prostate. Therefore, any hint of prostate enlargement should be investigated. Fortunately, most prostate enlargements are not caused by prostatic cancer.

Prostatitis – Important Information

Other sources of prostate enlargement are normal enlargement of the prostate as a natural part of aging. Another cause, more common in younger men, is prostatitis. Prostatitis is a catch all term that stands for a diverse number of prostate enlargements not related to aging or prostate cancer.

Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common form of the disease but it is very easy to diagnose and treat. The symptoms of this condition include fever, back pain, and frequent urination. The treatment for acute bacterial prostatitis is as simple as administering a round of antibiotics.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis has the same symptom suite as acute prostatitis, but the causes typically involved defects that provide a natural harbor for bacterial infection.

Prostatitis – Treatment Options

Treatment by antibiotics is not usually effective since it does not cure the underlying defect. Surgery or ultrasonic treatments are usually necessary to first remove the defects, and then antibiotics can clear up the residual bacteria.

Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland that does not cause any pain or discomfort. It is usually only detected during prostate examinations. This form of prostatitis generally causes no problems and does not require treatment of any kind.

Prostate Infection

Prostate infection can vary depending on the type of bacteria that is infested in the human body. One of the most chronic types of infection that is critical to a man’s prostate is the acute bacterial prostatitis that is usually found in the intestinal area.

Once the infection spreads to the bladder or the urethra of the male, it can cause more damage to the man’s prostate. A simply injury caused by bike or horseback riding can also cause an infection in the urinary tract, affecting the prostate area as well.

Prostate infection may also involve non bacterial prostatitis through a condition known as interstitial cystitis. Therefore it is so important to have regular health checks such as a prostate self exam. Men over 50 are recommended to have this on a yearly basis.

Clearly, enlargement of the prostate should always be taken seriously. Any symptoms should be reported to your doctor so that further tests can be run. Fortunately, most enlarged prostates are caused by non cancerous prostatitis.

Prostate Cancer Treatments

When you are diagnosed with prostate cancer, you should know that there are many different treatments available to you. There are various prostate cancer treatments that work better for various stages. For instance, if you are a Stage I, you might be able to get by with simple radiation.

Prostate Cancer Treatments – Stage III

However, if you are a Stage III, radiation alone would not likely be the best treatment. To find out what the latest prostate cancer treatment options are, or if you are interested in more natural or alternative treatments, you should consider doing your own research online.

The thing to remember with prostate cancer treatments is that it often grows very slowly. In addition, it seems to grow slower if it is left untouched by surgery. So, many times doctors will suggest other treatments before jumping to surgery.

Prostate Cancer Treatments – One Of The Best Treatments

One of the best treatments for prostate cancer available for those prostate cancer patients is hormone therapy. The reason hormone therapy works so well is because prostate cancer deals directly with male hormones.

So when male hormones are eliminated from the body, the prostate cancer tends to stop growing. It retards the system of growth completely. By removing or stunting the testicles from producing male hormones, the patient can stop the cancer from spreading throughout the body.

In order to determine the right treatment for a man’s prostate problem, it is essential to undergo prostate ultrasound.

During the stage of diagnosis, the patient will be required to undergo an ultrasound that will allow the physician to estimate how severe the inflammation is.

By knowing the size of the prostate gland, a doctor will be able to determine whether or not a biopsy may also be necessary to test the health of the infected gland.

The prostate ultrasound is usually done trans rectal, in order to probe the inside of the male’s rectum and get a clearer view of the prostate gland. Once the pictures are taken, the physician can now transfer the images to a treatment planning device.

Other options involve prostate surgery such as a prostatectomy where the doctors remove the prostate.

Of course, you always have a say in your prostate cancer treatments options, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and come prepared with knowledge on specific treatments that might be suggested. Your doctor will be impressed and know you mean business when you come educated on the subject.

Prostate Cancer Video For Treatment Options

Things such as your overall health, age, and risk factors such as benign prostatic hyperplasia will determine your actual risk of prostate cancer and help your doctor make a good decision. He can then recommend the best plan of action for treating and eliminating your prostate cancer.

To determine what the best prostate cancer treatments are, you should really talk with your doctor. Your doctor will be able to examine your individual case and determine what the best approach would be. You can also contact your national cancer institute for some of the best information about prostate cancer.

Prostate Information

Being healthy requires the ability to stay informed and take action when necessary. Prostate information for better health, is available to those who are at risk, or who have family members or friends who are at risk.

The best way to detect early signs of prostate cancer is to set up yearly appointments for a prostate self exam with a doctor and have tests such as a PSA test run to determine if cancer is present.

Detecting prostate cancer early will give doctors a chance to offer various treatment options and medication that can help eliminate the cancer and help in fighting it again if it should return.

Older men in their fifties are at risk of developing prostate cancer. While there are several theories as to how a person develops this type of cancer, there is no way to determine at this time the exact causes.

Prostate Information – Does Heredity Play A Part

Many doctors suspect that heredity plays a large role in the development of prostate cancer. Many times there are obvious symptoms of this cancer, such as an enlarged prostate gland, which can be painful.

It is wonderful to know that there are a lot of herbal medicines that can help alleviate health problems relating to a man’s prostate gland.

Over the years, the population of men dying from prostate cancer and other related diseases have been catching the attention of people from the medical field. One of the most well regarded herbal medicines that help cure prostate diseases is Lycopene.

Lycopene can be found in tomatoes and contain specific pigments that protect the human body from the invasion of prostate cancer cells. Zinc is also contained in most herbal medicines, allowing the prevention of prostate BPH as well as prostatitis.

Other symptoms include painful urination, weight loss, pelvic pain, and back pain. These symptoms could be caused by other illnesses and only a doctor can determine if it is prostate cancer.

While genetics plays a large role in the development of prostate cancer, other factors such as diet, exercise, and overall health could cause cancer. Smoking and drinking are also suspect. It is best to talk to a doctor about a diet and exercise plan that will help a person stay healthy.

Prostate Information – Other Important Information.

Another condition in prostate information is called Prostatitis, which is not a cancer, but an infection can be found in men of any age. This infection can be painful when urinating. Seeking a doctors care is recommended as the infection could spread to other parts of the body.

Prostate Cancer Video

Anytime a person feels pain in an area of their body for more than a few days, they should seek medical attention and this applies to prostate problems such as painful urination. I do hope the post on prostate information has been of help to you . Besides seeing your doctor, you can contact your local national cancer institute for some of the best prostate cancer information.
